Capturing the emotions

Sport has always been more than just results to me — it’s the emotion, atmosphere, and moments that happen in between. Through my photography I aim to capture the energy of competition alongside the personality and passion that make every event unique. From high-intensity action to candid celebrations, my focus is on telling authentic stories through sport.

The Final Challenge

This photo means so much more to me than might come across at first glance. I was photographing the match for the ACT Brumbies when I had the opportunity to capture the final ever Tau Moana to be performed by Moana Pasifika before their last game.

Being able to stand on the field and photograph something so full of culture and emotion was incredibly special to me. Moments like this remind me that I am not just photographing sport, I am photographing history. To be there in the middle of a moment like this is such an honour and privilege, and something I will hold dear for the rest of my life.

One Man's Passion

While this may not be the most technically perfect photo I will ever take. The player's eyes are hidden, and the focus is far too narrow, but to me, that doesn't matter. This photo represents what sport really is.

It shows a player from Alberta Lacrosse celebrating a goal with supporters from the GSI Grizzlies. Two teams from opposite sides of the globe, Canada and Norway, coming together at the Aleš Hřebeský Memorial tournament in Czechia to cheer each other on and create memories that will last a lifetime.

What makes this photo so special to me is knowing that all of this exists because of one person. Twenty-four years after Aleš Hřebeský passed away, his name is still bringing people from across the world together through the sport he loved. People who may have never otherwise met are now sharing a field, celebrating together and creating memories because of the impact he left behind. To me, there is no better testament to how much sport can mean to a community.

Face to Face

I love the feeling this photo portrays. Two fighters standing head to head, completely serious, sizing each other up and feeling each other out during a brief lull in the fight. This was taken during the Australian Boxing Selection Event, where fighters were competing for the chance to represent Australia at the Commonwealth Games, making the stakes of this moment even higher.

What I really like about the image is how the ring ropes in the foreground, combined with the wide framing, create a sense of isolation. Despite being surrounded by a crowd, coaches and officials, in this moment it feels like there is nothing else in the world but the two of them. They are completely alone in that ring, with the opportunity to represent their country hanging in the balance. There isn't a punch being thrown or a dramatic expression, yet the image still feels full of tension. I love that sense of anticipation, where you can feel that something is about to happen without knowing exactly what.
